Heavy Young Heathens have filed a lawsuit against NBC, US Figure Skating, and figure skaters for using their music in the Beijing Olympics.
Fox Sports, Discovery Inc., and Warner Brothers, which were eventually settled out of court. Heavy Youth Heathens are known for their musical compositions & songs, which have appeared in major television shows such as The Simpsons, Starbucks advertisements, and movie trailers such as Deadpool.
Mick Marderosian (father of musicians) and Heather Cohen of Marderosian & Cohen are representing the artists. NBC, US Figure Skating, and the skaters’ representative, David Baden of IMG, would rather not comment on their Lipson. “House of the Rising Sun is a very significant licensing asset for Heavy YoThe Marderosian brothers have filed a lawsuit against NBC, US Figure Skating, and figure skaters Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier, alleging that they violated their copyrights by performing their version of “House of the Rising Sun” in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics without permission. Heavy Young Heathens is a professional moniker for both brothers.
“Knierim and Frazier skated to our version of the traditional folk music, which has been used in a promo for the 2016 film “The Magnificent Seven” as well as a Ford Motor Co advertisement without our consent,” the brothers stated. “NBC is also alleged of copyright infringement for airing the same.” The skaters are accused of using their brother’s song during their short program, which resulted in the United States winning silver in the team figure skating event.
This is not the first time that the brothers have taken such actions; they have previously accused numerous other large corporations of utilizing their content without authorization, including claims against ung Heathens,” the lawsuit stated, “and seek the court’s directives on money damages, as well as to prevent any future infringement by the defendants.”
The case is Twelve Sixty LLC v. Comcast Corp, case no. 8:22-cv-00255 in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
