To take the top spot in the 2022 US patent league table, Samsung replaces IBM.

The International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), which had held the top spot for over 29 years, has been surpassed by Samsung in terms of the number of patents registered in the US in 2022.
According to SamMobile, Samsung Electronics registered 8,513 utility patents in the US in 2022, or nearly the same number as in the year before.
In contrast, IBM fell to second place with 4,743 patents registered in 2022, a 44% decline from the year before.
According to the research, LG Electronics also experienced a 5% growth in patent registrations, moving them up to third on the list.
The report also stated that IBM dropped to second position on the list due to a large decline in patent registration in semiconductors, hardware memory, and other areas.
IBM research president Dario Gil was quoted as saying, “We chose to no longer pursue numeric patent leadership, but remain an intellectual property powerhouse and continue to have one of the greatest portfolios in the world in our priority technologies.
Officials from IBM also said that the company continued to make tremendous earnings from intellectual property rights, which are expected to reach $27 billion by 2022.
According to the article, the corporation is refocusing on hybrid cloud computing, AI chips, cyber security, and quantum computing.
